Soya Bean // Domestic production of oilseeds in Pakistan meets only 30 percent of demand

Domestic production of oilseeds in Pakistan meets only 30 percent of demand. Studies show that oilseeds might be grown as a sequence or an intercrop in selected areas. This project will examine suitable varieties and cropping practices for five areas where soybean is likely to have potential, and where expanded soybean production would not displace traditionally grown crops.

Researchers will develop soybean lines with high oil yield, good seed viability, and pest and disease resistance. Agronomic practices for soybeans will be tested both on research stations and in farmers' fields. Training of soybean researchers and extension workers will also be undertaken.
